St Basils Cathedral Moscow

St Basils Cathedral MoscowThis magnificent cathedral has eight tower-chapels built around the main church.

This cathedral, whose actual name is Intercession Cathedral, was built under Ivan the Terrible in 1555-1561 AD to commemorate the eight days of decisive battles fought for victory over the Tartars in Kazan .

Legend has it that the two architects Barma and Postnik, who designed this building, were 'rewarded' by having their eyes cut out so that they would not build anything as beautiful for anyone else.
